The Agency
Counseling, Inc. was established in 1975 by a group of concerned citizens of Johnston County who wanted to do more for at- risk youth within the county. It was through these citizen's efforts that a large two- story house in Tishomingo was purchased, renovated and turned into a children's shelter. The shelter provided emergency shelter and counseling services to our youth.
In 1988, the emergency shelter services were dropped, the shelter home sold, and the agency was moved to its present location in downtown Tishomingo.
The agency presently provides youth and family counseling services within Atoka, Johnston, Marshall, and Murray counties of Southeastern Oklahoma. Youth under the age of eighteen may utilize the services.
The basic goal for the agency has not changed since those citizens banded together in August 1975. "To prevent or divert youth from entering or further advancing in the Juvenile Justice System."
